    Dashboard dilemma

    Folks,
In the process of fixing my odometer/speedometer on my '64 coupe I decided that my dash face, although not in terrible shape, probably could use a facelift.
I wanted to do it myself. And, after looking at all the how-to videos, and reading several articles I gave it a go.
Well, it just isn't working out to my satisfaction. And, guess I need to bite the bullet. Just not professional grade.
Plus, I'm really picky about stuff like this. Especially with this vehicle.

What I'd like to know is if there is any one service, shop or individual who you would suggest for this undertaking.
I read the adds. But, the adds don't always give the best indicator.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Jack

By dash face do you mean the instrument cluster and glove box or the fiberglass dash water fall?

          Ralph,
          Thanks!
I just sent him a PM.
Not sure if it went thru though. No indication in my Sent folder.
I've messaged him previously with no issue.
If I don't hear back I'll try again.

          Regards,
          Jack

              I couldn't agree more.
He repaired my speedo/odometer last month and I couldn't be happier.
I'm hoping my PM got through. But, it is the 4th of July holiday.
              Have a good one!

I had my 67 done by Corvette Specialties of MD West last year when the speedo broke. Looks great--wait time was a bear but I knew that going in and they retained my original LA sticker and date stamp. Said my cluster was the cleanest one from a convertible they'd seen in a long time.

Hopefully I never have to pull it again--that was fun!

                  Paul,
Thanks for the info. I'm holding them in reserve.
I talked to Joe Ray today. He gave me a boat load of useful information.
I may have been closer to a successful DIY than I'd thought.
I spent the afternoon re-masking, etc.
I'm going to give it my best shot this weekend after work.
If I'm still not satisfied I guess I'll bite the proverbial bullet.

                  Regards,
                  Jack

                    Re: Dashboard dilemma

The cluster is all reassembled, hanging on threaded rods on the dash.
All the electrical items, bulbs, capacitors, bladed connectors are reattached; with one notable exception.
The main black ground wire has no home.
According to the official assembly manual, and every picture/diagram I’ve been able to find, there should be a male connector attached to the cluster frame next to the upper rear tach bulge?
I pulled the cluster forward and looked behind with a mirror in the area where the male grounding connector should be. Nope.

                    So, my questions are these.
Is this something that was added after ‘64? I realize that is very unlikely. Maybe the cluster has been out before and the connector was removed and never reattached??
In any event, since this is a simple ground wire can it be attached anywhere on the rear metal of the cluster?

                    Regards,
                    Jack

see the ground spade up near the triple idiot light holes on my Jan 64 cluster?
                      Yours doesn't have that?
If yours is not there, it must have gotten left behind on someone's workbench when the cluster was taken apart and reassembled. I think you can add one back under any cluster screw.

                          Folks,
I have encountered an oddity while reattaching the cabin air vent knobs.
I've looked in the GM assembly manual and the '64 shop manual.
They both indicate two interior air vent cables, one driver's side one passenger side.
                          I have an extra.

In the picture below there are two knobs on the left of the column.
I took this right before I removed the column.
I think one was incorrectly attached?
I see no third knob/cable, but I have one now.

Below you can see that I have two cable on the left side.
One operates the vent just fine.
The other exits to the left of the fuse box and is frozen.
I have no idea what it is/does.

                          Am I missing something here??
Any suggestions are more than welcome.

                          Regards,
                          Jack

It operates your cabin vent fan that is located in the space above your left inner rear wheel well, behind a removable panel.

Check 1964 AIM section 1 Assembly A8.00 and A9.00 Roof Blower Motor and Rear duct.

The attached file illustrates the rear blower mentioned above. That long cable actuates the switch mounted on the blower housing.
