    75 Headlamp warning switch

Recently purchased a nice 75 vert 4sp ac fac vinly hard top car, I noticed the headlight switches were missing, I purchased new ones, however I cannot see what makes the switch shut off, I do not see a tab by the actuator that would close the switch when the lights are down, none of the drawings I have found shows any bracket.

    Any help would be great

    Thanks 69427435

The switches are activated when the headlights are in the fully open position.

Ok, but is there a tab or plate that makes the switch when the lights are off, I could not see anything that would close this switch

No, the circuit is only active when the headlamps are on.

I can't describe it clearly enough I'm sure. You may have to watch from underneath as you manually close the lamps. If your 75 is the same as my 71 (and it should be), there is a "pad" about 3/8" X 1/2" that the switch plunger lands on when the lamp closes. It is part of the cast, L shaped lever that the spring pins pass through. Hope this helps. Chip.

            Hi Steve,
Here is a photo of my 73 headlight assembly in the closed position. Don't know if it helps you see what your looking for or not. It all should be the same for the 75.
            Hope it helps!

Paul, your description is spot on if you change the word 'close' to 'open'. The sole purpose of the switches is to advise the driver that one or both headlight buckets are not in the upright and locked position when the headlight switch is in the 'on' position (pulled out fully).

You are correct. My mistake even after you made the point in a earlier post! I will now try my hand at editing a post. Chip.

That's what I thought, why is there a switch without anything toggling it when it's in the off position, any way you could take a pic of yours sometime?, none of the drawing details shows this tab

                  Thanks

                  Steve

                    Re: 75 Headlamp warning switch

Steve, look closely at the photo in post #6 above. It clearly shows the switch against the "pad" I described while the headlamps are in the open position. I don't think there is any power in that circuit until the headlamp switch is pulled completely out (calling for headlamps) and the warning lights are on until the lamps lock into place and the switch plunger is depressed. Have you installed the new switches and plugged them in? Do you still have warning lights on? If so, look at yours in the open position and make sure they are reaching the fully locked position. There is no adjustment on the switch, but I have seen some wild adjustment attempts to level the doors when closed that can upset the locked position when open. Chip.

It's a spring loaded switch. Depressed position breaks the circuit and turns the warning lamp off.
