Crate Engine HP/TQ Data

Is the horsepower and torque data listed on crate engines, both GM and aftermarket, stated in terms of gross output or does anyone (GM at least) state their crate engine data as net? Just trying to get a reasonable comparison basis between crate engines and also trying to compare results from an engine analyzer program to the published crate engine performance data. Thanks.

While I have no absolute proof, I believe that all crate engine horsepower and torque ratings are specified in GROSS horsepower. Net horsepower is an "as-installed" rating. Since crate engines are, by definition, not an installed engine, there's no way that the engine manufacturer could know what the installed horsepower would be.
