The original pan was GM #3820001. The replacement was GM #359942. The pans were identical except for the front oil pan gasket radius. The original was 2-1/4" and the replacement 2-3/8". Very difficult to discern when mounted on the engine.

What's the value? I usually don't get into valuing parts since I never sell any and, thus, have no personal experience. However, from what I've seen, I'd say the the 359942 is probably worth AROUND 750 bucks. The 3820001, since it was discontinued so long ago and might appeal to BIG $$$$$$ guys, probably about 1,000 bucks.

Studs were different for 1963-65 and 1970-72 applications of the pan and were never supplied with either pan.

Mike, I've seen used sell for over 500, so I concur with Joe's assessment.

It'd be cool if you took some pics of it. Some of the unopned box then of the pan details. The box flap may be dated and you may see a date stamp on the pan mount flange.

Obviously, I'm way out of touch if Joe and Richard are right - I would say $450 for pan and tray would have made me happy.

                  All------

There are 2 NOS examples of the GM #359942 for sale on eBay right now. One is for sale at a "bargain basement" price of $199. The only problem is that someone has crudely"reconfigured" the forward end of the sump, possibly trying to make it fit for a power steering application (bubba says "I'll make it fit"). This pan is irreparable and scrap metal, not even worth a dollar.

The other example currently on eBay is being offered by ProTeam. You can "Buy It Now" for $1,800. Might be a little "over-priced" but "hope springs eternal". It does come complete with a windage tray. The problem is the windage tray pictured is not a GM #3769768 which is what was used with the 6 quart pan. I don't know what the windage tray pictured is. I don't think it was ever used on a Corvette.

So far, no one has reproduced the "6 quart" pan so the only sources for them are NOS or used originals. Creating the multi-element tooling needed to produce this pan would be very expensive and the potential market very small (i.e. 1963-65 mechanical lifter Corvette small blocks, early 1970 Corvette LT-1, and 1970-72 Corvette ZR-1). Of course, don't count out those clever Chinese "Tier 10" manufacturers.

Since the 1970 model year began in JAN 1970, wonder when the LT1's began using the smaller oil pans?

Oh good, Joe, I've got an original 6-quart sitting around, If I can find somebody to pay $,1000, I won't have to hitch-hike to Altoona and can buy a beer

I asm pretty sure the answer is in the 1970-72 TIM&JG, but off the top of my head the answer is April when the engine code changed from CTU to CTK. Now who is going to check on my memory??

I'll see you there, Mikey. You'll have to take a heck of a roundabout route from Cumberland to Altoona to catch a glimpse of my hitching style...

At the last Altoona regional, a downhill runaway shopping cart crashed into my pick-up's door at about 30 MPH in the Walmart parking lot. I'm not taking any chances this time, hitch-hiking is much safer than driving in Altoona...

                              Mike,

I had a cart into the door on my car once, creased it like you would not believe. Only way to fix it was a new door skin.

Gotta watch the folks out there, seems like it's a real effort to return carts to there proper cage and no one cares anymore, no road courtesy either.
