57 vette master cylinder front plug replacement

Anyone replace the front press in plug on a master cylinder for a gen1 vette? Process?Special tool needed?Or is it best left to a brake shop?

Joe I would have it done by a domestic expert with experience.

I send my MCs to Apple Hydraulics in NY for sleeving. I'd give them a call as they may be able to do it.

If you loose that plug in a panic stop, not good.

there is enough of a recess that you can file down the replacement plug and press it over the existing plug. if plug is loose just silicon the new plug to the existing plug.

Thanks for the reality check Rich. I have used Apple for two MCs and a water pump, great work, very reasonable, quick turn around. I'll give them a call today.Joe

Why are you screwing with a safety item like a master cylinder ID in the first place? The original part was engineered with specific perameters (sp) and test procedures. The engineering print required the plug ID number be inserted to verify the part meets all these standards.
Suggest you advise any future owner of your car the master cylinder plug is a fake! and he brakes at his own risk.

Since when is curiosity a crime?Condemnation for asking a qurestion?.Next week I'll plug the nail holes in my 20 year old tires and sell it to some unsuspecting victim.Your outrage is misplaced and your suggestion not appreciated.

It is your car and I could care less what you do with it. Just don't hurt anyone but yourself.
My comment was merely a safety alert.

I DISAGREE WITH IT BEING A SAFETY ITEM. Since you think it is a safety item, tell me what the difference is between a cylinder with a 320G and 320H plug? Also, all delco replacement cylinders come with a blank front plug. if the engineering print required the plug ID number be inserted to verify the part meets all these standards, why do the replacement cylinders have a blank plug?

Why do you want to replace the plug? If it is not leaking, leave it alone and just rebuild the M/C especially if it is an original plug.

the reason is a 320 G plug is the correct and only plug on a early corvette. delco replacements have a blank plug and the cylinders with the 320H plugs are know to not originally been on corvettes. so most likely the cylinder has a blank or 320H plug.
