    1966 Rear View Mirror Interior

I have a rear view mirror, the body is painted black with no date code on the mirror. Might be a replacement.

According to the Accessories book for 1966 Chevrolet shows a day / night mirror.

My question is, does the day / night mirror from Paragon #13784 pass NCRS Judging?

FYI: There has been a REVISION to the 1966 Judging Guide regarding the interior mirror:

    Rear View Mirror Revision 1966

      Tim,

As Jack notes, Day/Night mirrors are no longer considered factory original for '66. In previous editions of the TIM&JG the Day/Night mirror was considered acceptable, but recent research has changed that view. I got burned by having a Day/Night mirror restored only to later learn it was not acceptable when new guidelines were announced by the '66 team leader. Oh well.

If you want a restored original mirror for your '66 that will pass judging you could contact Joyce Borrell. Her website is: http://www.mirrorladypa.com

        Gary,

According to the 1966 5th edition page 22 they say that the 1966 models were equipped with one of two possible mirrors; standard and optional non-glare. It goes on to id both mirrors.

          Tim,

It's the '66 Team Leader's revision to the JG that matters, and that means Day/Night is out.

              Tim,

Good question. I don't know the answer. The one about the non-OK of the '66 Day/Night mirror showed up on the DB.

Here are a few notable threads regarding this topic (long ago, I got caught up in the old JG and bought a day/night mirror too):

                  Jack,

For me the interesting question is are such word-of-mouth revisions listed somewhere officially before they wind up in the JG?

                    Hi Gary,

I believe it was spelled out in an issue of the Restorer.

I thought the NCRS was planning to make use of a new TDB section for that exact purpose (Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide Errata Sheets). It appears it was setup a few years ago, but there has only been one post since itz introduction.

It sounded like a good idea... no clue what happened. And it could benefit 'new' members that may not have seen announcements in an earlier printed Restorer. Not a complaint, as I change my mind 27 times a day... no, make that 41... correction...
