I have rechecked my wiring with schematics from Lectric Ltd and the AIM. On less I am in another time frame I have hooked the 1961 Amp Gauge correct. Looking at the back of the oil pressure, amp gauge cluster from laying under the dash on my back, rebuiltthe Black Lead is hooked on the left post next to the oil pressure gauge. The right hand post next to the Tach has all 4 reds. How ever when the engine is running the gauge is showing a discharge. With the engine turned off and I turn the headlights on, it shows a charge, which would show the gauge is hooked up backwards. However I hooked it up according to the schematic. I had the gauges rebuilt by a well know rebuilder. Could it be something wrong or backward inside the gauge. The Gen and Volt reg are hooked up as per schematic. I did have trouble getting it charging. I have not had this trouble rewiring other C1s. Thank You Fred

Re: 1961 Wiring Amp Gauge
Its backwards....the early GM schematics have that error and it is fairly well known.
The Dr. Rebuild schematics are much better and tested on real cars...
Reverse your wires and it'll be fine...
I strongly, strongly suggest you add a 30 amp blade ATC type fuse in the ammeter lead to the battery (the black wire). These cars are lightly fused (that's being generous) and use "full flow" ammeters. You can have 20 unfused amps or more passing through that gauge just above your knee...Attached Files- Top
