Is this fan correct for a '69?

    Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if this fan is correct for a '69 small block without AC? I think it is a 3888366, which would be right, but everything I can find says that fan should have a "66" stamped on it, and this one just has a "6". (It also has the "FRONT" and "W" stampings that should be there.)

Also. I am curious about the paint job. The judging guide says these were often painted "poorly", but were they really this bad?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Paul

It's correct. Some examples of the 3888366 have a single "6" stamping.

        So another question...

What would all of you do about the paint on the fan? It appears to be the original paint, and the judging guide states that these fans were painted poorly. I think some of the paint may have worn off over the years, though, so it probably looks worse now than it originally did.

What would be the best way to maximize judging points... leave it as-is, or strip the original paint and hit it with a fresh coat of gloss black?

Leave the finish alone. You may lose some condition points, depending on the judge, but most of us prefer the original finish to tarted up floozies.
