Late C1 Exhaust Paint 100% Coverage / Adhesive

It was suggested to me at the last Florida Regional meet to assemble and paint my new exhaust system with a flat finish high temperature product before installing it in the car to simulate the factory environment - sounded very logical. Do I do 100% coverage or leave some of the final upper surface unpainted? What's the best current product to use for the "special adhesive" that was used on the crossover pipes?

My 62 had paint on the entire system. Paint the whole thing because heat will take care of the final "look" of the painted pipes and mufflers. My system ended with no paint on the hot spots by the manifolds and the front portion of the mufflers.

regarding the special adhesive, i've never had to use any sealers/adhesives on the 6 c-1 FI's I've restored because the cross-over pipes from Corvette Central fit so well, there was no need for it. mike

Just don't use that VHT exhaust paint crud.
Use POR-15 Exhaust Gray or Eastwood has several other good products...

Since it's a non-stainless that's what I'll plan to do. Hopefully I can make it to Top Flight this time.

I didn't know you hadn't achieved a Top Flight yet.
Hard to understand, I've seen your car and it is very correct and gorgeous...

I have always used BBQ Grill paint as it gives a matte finish.

                What exhaust material?

If it's aluminized, then you get the 25% standard deduction. As such, there really is no room to deduct for blackout finish or lack thereof.
I often find that high temp black paint is too flat in appearance. Correct is likely satin, with drips and ugliness showing. They didn't really care how neat they paint was applied, which is how the "mitting" urban myth started.
