    Ya Wanna Get Sick?

I'm watch a new car show "speed is the new black" they are ripping apart a perfect body never hit '62 Corvette. It looks all restored 300 horse red with fawn interior. They are butchering up the body to put it on a modern frame. Another resto rod destroys a good car. Why did they not use a parts car to butcher up? I realize it is their car and they can do what they want but some people have more money than brains. Yes, dumber than the dog. The body, engine, and chassis before these clowns got their hands on it looked real nice.

Wonderful painting never even strip the red paint. Did body work and primed right on the old finish, and they show it on TV. That's a paint job gotta last all of 8 to 10 months.

I too saw the show and got sick. You asked why so here goes, because someone that owns the car is paying them to do it. They are in the business of modifying cars and are not going to turn away business. Also a person paying for this ultimately pays less starting with a sound car than a parts car. I do not agree with it and there are certainly enough hacked up cars out there to do this with. This episode brought up the bad memories of Chip Foose modifying an original 1963 split-window for his show Overhauling.

Yes this was a shame to see this, at one point the hatched up one of the mounting locations because it did not line up, IF I remember correctly.

Any other members out there feel that the "Velocity Channel" programming is in a downward spiral?

Any chance we can keep this a "Technical Forum" and leave B.S. topics like this to that other forum?

Think about the future of NCRS, Jim. The world is more social place than it was in the 70's. There is no longer a need for a "Technical Forum" without people.

Then I suggest you contact your NCRS representatives and have this site renamed CF/2 where instead of discussing actual facts about restoring our cars, they can talk about crap like the OP posted.
Personally, I rather discuss what's factory correct than to slam what some back yard bubba TV show does that's not factory correct.

Mmm.. doesn't really seem that out of place to comment on someone butchering a car on a site devoted to preserving Corvettes, but I can see where it detracts from the overall concept of "technical discussion".
I guess anti-technical discussion would be a better forum name to post this in.
I'm new here though so I probably just don't know any better.

You're right. It has to make anyone who cares about Corvettes feel bad. To think someone bothered to preserve that car for over half a century only to have this happen to it...sad

I am continually amazed at people who want to use their personal preferences and values to judge others who do not share their preferences and values. IMO, what anyone does with their car using their money is their business, not everyone else's business. Certainly not a subject, that when discussed, adds any value or knowledge to our hobby or society.

I know that you are absolutely right. And, I suppose we shouldn't judge someone's right to exercise their right to make their own choices. But, when something that can't be replaced is gone...I think I have the same right to feel bad.

While most of us would not make the choices this owner made, we have to recognize that "another one gone" makes the remaining ones more valuable -- at least in the eyes of most of us. Get in line for the parts they took off of it.

Using that reasoning then sharing what I do with my own car falls under the same logic. So I propose to you that I should not share anything that is not pure 100% nuts and bolts technical. There is too much theory and personal preferences expressed on a daily basis on this web site to go there. The topic still has to do with Corvettes, in this case one that was restored nicely then destroyed. So I propose to you "Not Gonna Happen".

I questioned a local Corvette repair shop about making a resto rod once and he responded by telling me "look at all the original parts that will be for sale on ebay now. The NCRS guys won't let them go to waste."

I fail to see the logical equivalency of sharing what you do with your car with members here vs. being very critical and judgmental about what someone on TV does with their car, but whatever.........
