    PTSC Regional Event Summary/Thank You!

Well as you know by all the recent TDB posts and photos the Pittsburgh Tri-State Chapter just completed hosting our 6th Regional Event since the early 90's. We were a bit skeptical at first as to whether or not we would have a nice turnout of cars to be judged but, as you can see by the photos posted here by Vinnie, myself and others we had a great car turnout. Those of you who have hosted or have been involved with these events know all the planning, hard work, dedication by your chapter members, and organization it takes to put one of these on successfully. That was our chapter's goal from the onset. From all the comments here on the TDB and by those we received in person at the event by NCRS members, judges, and owners our chapter succeeded in reaching our goal.

As is the case in any organization, success starts at the top. Our current chapter chairman Don Geary deserves all the credit for leading our team with planning, organizing and delegating responsibilities to the event Team Leaders. We started planning for this event over a year and a half ago. From putting together registration packets, parking/unloading trailers, organizing the parking spaces/safely parking the cars in the facility, providing security, meeting with judges/owners, making sure the Tabulation Team was set up, organizing judging schools/tech seminars, meals, seeking event sponsorships/vendors, making signs, and apparel merchandise. It takes tremendous cooperation from everyone. When you think you have all that covered mother nature throws you a curve ball by handing you heavy rains, that caused some minor leaks(no cars were affected) and a major power outage in the Altoona area on Saturday right around lunch time. Don got us all through it with a calming smile on his face and reassurance that everything will be ok. Everyone went on about their business without a hitch. Our chapter Judging chairman Bill Bryan also deserves special recognition for his hard work before, during and after the event making sure the judges had everything they needed and making sure that the results are entered properly.

Our chapter would like to thank the NCRS, Dave Brigham, all the Team Leaders and their teams of great judges, chapter member Bridget Kitch for making and donating the Corvette quilt to raise money for our chapter's charities, and anyone else who may have helped including several members of the MAC chapter. We would especially like to thank all the car owners for bringing out their beautiful cars for judging or display. This event wouldn't have been a success without you. Congratulations to all those who received awards at Saturday's Banquet, and a special congratulations to ole' John D. for receiving the NCRS President's Award. You certainly deserve it John. I'm proud to know you and proud to be a member of the Pittsburgh Tri-State Chapter NCRS.

I'd like to leave you guys with a nice quote from Dave Brigham that I thought to be very important. At the end of each morning
judge's breakfast Dave would go over the day's schedule with them and before he turned them loose he would remind them of this, "Please, remember to treat all those cars as you would treat your own!".... It reminded me of what I used to tell all my teachers when I met with them, "Treat each child as you would want your child to be treated!" After all, aren't these cars our children!

Here are the final results from the Pa. Regional as noted by Don Geary.

    35 - Top Flight
    9 - Second Flight
    7 - PV Cars
    2 - Duntov Cars
    2 - Bowtie Displays
    1 - American Heritage Car
    1 - Concours Car
    3 - Practice Judged Cars (2000-2002)

    Kindest Regards,
    Jimmy

Jimmy, I assume your Judging Chair, Bill Bryan, deserves a mention. The work he did before the meet and is probably still doing entering the results is big. Don H.

      Don,
I totally agree, and made sure to add him in my recent edit.

Yes we had a great meet, also need to mention 10 sportsman cars, and 4 flight cars that were "no shows" they missed it all.
I am the current judging chairman, still working, plan on mailing out certificates and score sheets early next week, then maybe
I am done till next time!!
Also everyone should remember the 63 coupe that drove down from Canada, maybe 400 miles, congrats to Peter!!

Well written letter Jimmy. Much appreciated I am sure.
Now maybe I shouldn't be saying this but why not as this is a technical discussion board.
Getting thru ops seems to be a problem friends. We worry about this bolt, this logo, this color etc. But not enough time and effort is spent on getting our Corvettes to the point that everything is working as it should be. Those point hits are very heavy. 25 points a crack if something doesn't work.
I remember when my '63, the LWC(little white car) was at its last regional in Seven Springs. Three of us spent three weeks getting everything to work. The car passed everything except one issue. Bill Sangrey caught this one. The door locks are reversed. Key was working in reverse. hahaha.
And staying that way as don't want to chip the lacquer paint. Yes those cars were painted with lacquer. Not that glow in the dark stuff.
Meanwhile I spent a lot of time watching the Pittsburgh Chapter experienced crew pull that show off like clockwork. It just didn't happen by chance. Tons of preparation. Many meetings held by Don Geary. Paper work like you cannot believe.
Team work was the answer. We all helped one another and forgot about job titles. As it should be.
Congratulations PTSC members. Old JD is very proud of you. After all I have been in the chapter since Barry Holmes and Tony Cotti started it in 1990. Long time ago. Thanks very much all. John
