Any need for a 56-62 voltage regulator solid state conversion kit?

Re: Voltage regulators
I hear the cry for these devices at least once a week on that 'other' forum...
The repros are crummy and in most cases not adjustable...I've heard from one 62 owner that his put out WAY too much voltage....like double...
The only person making them passed away. He made the first one ever for a generator-based C1 for my '61 Corvette and I bought several from him and sold them off. They worked flawlessly - the gent was 92 when he made them for me and died two years later.
Here is what they looked like....and he put them in the stock housing. His heirs had no interest in continuing the work nor in sharing the design - I asked and got a not-so-nice answer from their lawyer.- Top

Re: Voltage regulators
I'm game. If you do it send me a prototype and I'll test it in my '59.
Edit.... Rick, for the C1 or the C2?- Top

Re: Voltage regulators
Rick, that looks like a good alternative.
I believe Ken's unit would likely fit into a existing VR case, much like the design he has for the C2 VRs.- Top

Re: Voltage regulators
I have a Wilton conversion on my 62 and it has worked flawlessly for a number of years. I hope to get one for my 57.- Top

Should have a reading on how well they work before long - I can't see why there'd be a problem though...
This vendor is gonna wonder what is up with the sudden inrush of orders
The people you linked to want $165-$180 for a replacement VR that doesn't look like an original. I'll pass on that one and hope Ken makes a C-1 kit as reasonably priced as his C-2 kit ($40).- Top

Re: Voltage regulators
I sold my spare Wilton converted C1 regulators for $135 last summer...and they went within an hour of the ad...could have easily gotten more...and folks bugging me to see if I had more of them.
The point being that, yes, - I think there is market space for a less expensive alternative to current products. And now Ken is aware there is a competing product and its price point. I'd say that's worth knowing.- Top

Re: Voltage regulators
I wonder why it has taken so long for someone to develop a kit for a generator. Delco Remy made one in the '60's p/n 9000590. It was in the same housing as the transistor ignition box. The board could have been adapted to fit inside a conventional regulator.Dick Whittington- Top

And then, I think it might be surprising how many cars have been converted to alternators.- Top
