Would the date code on this carb work for my car?

    Hi all,

I am in search of a correct 7029203 Rochester or Carter-built Quadrajet carburetor for my '69 (300 HP base model with manual trans).

The car's engine assembly date is July 3rd, 1969, and the body build date on the trim tag is July 23rd, 1969. Does the carb need to be dated within 6 months of the former or the latter date?

I ask because I have located a very nice 7029203 core with a date code of 0249, which I interpret to be January 24th, 1969. I know that a carb would not typically be dated this much earlier than the car, but I am wondering if it would be ok for judging purposes, as I am having trouble locating a decent core with a better date.

Should I go with this carb or hold out for one with a better date?

    Thanks,
    Paul

The carburetor on your 1969 was installed at St Louis, thus the date is judged against the car assembly date for which we use the date on the trim tag.

Thanks, Terry! So that being the case, I am thinking that the carb in question here would still be ok for judging... but just BARELY (literally, by a day). Am I correct? And do you think this is cutting it too close?

Yes and yes. That should not be that hard a carb to find, you might want to grab it while you can and continue the hunt for a more reasonable date. Depends on the cost and how those $$$ affect your life. You just might have to live with it.
