I just had a friend call and ask how to install the belt on the water pump of a 67 / 327 engine. He says there's no tensioner to go around. Just the bottom pulley and the water pump. I thought maybe he might be missing a smog pump? He says there's a two groove pulley on end of crank. One is for the alternator. Anyone know exactly how belt should be installed? I don't know that much about 67's.

Re: 1967 Water pump install on 327 engine
Rex,
Does your friend's car have power steering or A/C? If not, there is only one belt that runs from the crank, over the fan pulley and then over to the alternator. Cars that used the additional water pump belt, as insurance, can be "walked" onto the pulley by first pulling the center, large coil wire from the ignition coil. Then, slipping the belt over and around the fan onto the upper pulley and then starting the belt on the lower pulley. Then using a screwdriver under the belt and between the pulley, have a friend bump over the ignition switch and you will be able to "walk" the belt onto the lower pulley. Hope this helps.Leif

Re: 1967 Water pump install on 327 engine
Rex,
L79 motors without P/S or A/C had two groove pulleys on the water pump pulley (3858533-2) as well as the crank shaft pulley (3770245-2). The groove closes to the engine had a belt that ran around the water pump and crank shaft. The outer groove goes around the water pump, crank shaft and alternator. There are a number of different configurations depending on motor and options, reference page 144 in the 67 JMG. You might also look at Long Island Corvette Supply Catalog as the show the various fan belt configurations in Section 59. Hope this helps.
