I was check out a friend car and he asked me to check the coolant. I was suprised to see red coolant, looks like Dex-Cool. Is this stuff okat for a C-2 with the aluminum radiator? I was told a while ago not to use this stuff in older cars. Is this just another wivs tale?

Re: Dex-Cool in a C-2
Modern OAT antifreeze products including DexCool are not designed to protect solder since most cars haven't had soldered components in the cooling system for a couple of decades.
An HOAT product like Zerex G-05 will provide better solder protection, so change to G-05 or equivalent at the next coolant change.

Re: Dex-Cool in a C-2
I agree to stay with the "green". I don't know about the chemistry comparing the green to red but have always used Prestone in my vettes and red in my 02 S10. Just changed he heater core in the S10- 15 years old 243,000 miles. One thing I noticed with the Prestone I used this summer, I had to use 3 gallons to get the -34* F protection. I thought it was my tested until I checked it against 2 others and all were the same. The color of the green looks lighter to me then in previous years, does anyone know if there was a change in it?- Top
