    NCRS Judging Records

I have just purchased a 1964 Convertible 327 x 300 hp. In the mountains of documentation coming with this car is a set of previous judging sheets from 1990. Two scoring sheets reflect total scores of 93.4 and 98.1 with another sheet ,a technical sheet, with an overall score of 95.

Are these still valid documents and what is the meaning of all this? The person who sold me the car advised he had addressed the issues noted in the judging sheets and the car was ready for judging again.
New (obviously) to mid years and NCRS so I'm asking some dumb questions.
    Can anyone advise please?

    Regards,

score sheets are just a "time capsule" for the given date the judges judged the car - so are they still valid........ - you can certainly use them against the current TIM&JG and evaluate the car for yourself and ascertain whether everything checks out

Ron, welcome to NCRS as I see you joined today. I will agree with Rick's comments. I recommend you click on the Contacts link and locate an NCRS Chapter close to you, join and engage with their activities. Attend a chapter judging meet and watch the process or register you car to be judged. The 63/64 Judging manual is excellent to have as well as the Judging reference manual. Why not post a few pictures of your car and ask some questions about the car.

      Good Luck.

+1, I agree with Harry, and I love '64s, so would love to see pictures of your new baby! And feel free to ask any questions here, there are no dumb ones, just ones that haven't been asked or answered.

          Re: NCRS Judging Records

Welcome to NCRS, Ronald. Score sheets from 1990 can only give you perspective on the condition of the car at that time. You'll find that NCRS judging standards are much different today than back then, and your car is seventeen years older, so I'm not sure the old records will be very useful in predicting a judging score today.

I'm sure the guys here can help you evaluate the car as it sits today, and putting it though a chapter judging event would be a low-stress way to get an even better picture of where it stand in today's world...

          Good luck,

I would suggest that it may be a wonderful car, but 27 year old judging sheets are moderately useless in regard to the car as it sits today. As has been noted they are a glimpse into what it was, not what it is.

I would suggest you could have it Chapter judged or even practice judged if you wanted. Join your local Chapter and find out!

              Whoops, minor typo there.

Here's the judging manual that would have been used.. 29 pages, 13 of them blank..Somewhat thinner than today's Sixth Edition.

We have learned much originality info that has been updated in the new TIM&JG since the '90s about the '63-'64s, like the 326 vs. 175 water pumps..................

John, it's says: "Spring, 1988 - Second Edition, Third Printing". It was used to judge my blue 63 L84 convertible in its first Top Flight, sometime in 1989, I think. Be glad to copy it for you, let me know.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I've joined the national NCRS and applied for a local Chapter now. I'm curious about the overall score of 95 on the sheets. Is that good enough for any recognition or just "close, but no cigar"?

Welcome Ron. In today's scoring, the 95 would have attained a Top Flight (94 and above scores Top Flight). The above suggestions about getting your car judged "as is" are good ones...this will give you a base line as to what you may/may not want to do going forward.
From the online NCRS store here on this site, buy the TIM&JG (Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide) and the AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual) for your '64...HUGE help in answering a lot of the questions you will come up with and, also, in prepping your car for judging. Enjoy the journey and, most of all, drive the wheels off that new car.
