    Help with Block I.D. please

A good friend has a beautiful 56 with a non original block and have been helping him ID it. It's casting is 3970010 with date code K203 and has the block stamped CL3A47916.

Im thinking its a 350 cu in cast on the 20th November 1973 in Saginaw and assembled in the Flint plant. In my Corvette books I cannot find reference to the stamping CL3A, only CLA.

Can anyone tell me what GM vehicle this block was first fitted to?

    Thanks Bryan

Casting number 3970010 is a 350 block and it was cast on November 20, 1973. 3970010 blocks were manufactured between late 1969 and 1980.

As far as the stamped code goes, this is not a code that was used on any PRODUCTION engine installed in a vehicle. This was originally some sort of SERVICE engine.

Is it possible the block is stamped CE3A47916? CE3 would be an over the counter or warranty engine for 1973.

If it really is CE (and not CL) the rest of the numbers make perfectly good sense.
