In my pile of parts I came accoss a VAC with the part number "436 20" on it. According to the JG my application requires a "436 16" so it isn't of much use to me. Is the 436 20 a corvette part, and if so what is the application? Thanks!

Re: VAC part number question
'436 20' is the stamping found on GM #1973436 distributor vacuum controls. This vacuum control is applicable to 1971-72 Corvettes with LS-5. This vacuum control produces 20.5 crankshaft degrees of advance at 16-18" vacuum. I know of no vacuum control stamped 436 which produces 16 degrees advance. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: VAC part number question
Thanks Joe, god to know that it is a part for my application. Guess I could test it to see if it works or not.
I don't have the latest copy of the latest JG yet. Anyone know if the "436 16" that is shown in the green JG is a misprint? Just curious, thanks!- Top

Re: VAC part number question
New JG also says 436 16, and is based on information taken from Delco-Remy specifications plus original cars, per the notation in the JG.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: VAC part number question
I think the 436 20 is correct. They were wrong in the old manual and I replicated the error it in the new manual. Let me check in the morning, but I think a few others are also wrong. I have fixed the digital file on my computer, in case we ever do a 6th edition, but its on my shop computer.
Ialso think some of the 68-69 vacuum canister numbers are wrong, but let me check...

Re: VAC part number question
Thanks a lot gary, Once the driving season ends here I'm planning on some small projects for the winter. Also will be upgrading to the new JG. Not a criticism by any means, lord knows I'm far from perfect, but is there a way to track and get corrections to the guide other than what we read here? Perhaps an e-mail or paper list of the little errors that are accumulated? Thanks for all the hard work!!- Top

Re: VAC part number question
No offense taken, by any means. These manuals are only as good as the members make them, I alone can't do it, help from many people got it done. I wish I knew of a way to publish the changes, so every-bodies manual was up-to-date. We use to publish green sheets to update the manual with changes, but those are only as good as the people asking for them. Trying to email the 300 people, or so, the changes might be a daunting task. We have the Eratta Section on the front page of this forum, but I am not able to post there. I think... only David Brigham can. I know he is busier than a one armed paper hanger, and could not possibly post all the changes for all the different manuals. Then, not all out members use this forum.
I am not sure it's fair for first printing, second printing either. You still have to buy another manual to get the updates. So, I think I'll wait and do 6th Edition a little later.
So, maybe the major changes, I'll just post here on the forum. Still won't appeal to all the members, but it's a start?

Re: VAC part number question
If a list is put together I might suggest emailing it to Chapter judging chairmen. One would hope that they could print it and add it to the manual.

I have checked all of the above and I agree with everything except the vacuum control used with the 1970 LS-5 with GM #1111464 distributor. I show that distributor as using the the GM #1116360 vacuum control stamped 360 12. Distributor vacuum control GM #1116217 was a vacuum control configured for inline 6 cylinder distributors. It could not have been used on any Corvette V-8 distributor. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
