Re: No love for the 68?
So true. I had my 68 judged several years ago at a very liberal chapter meet. It got a second flight with around 92 points with no real preparation. It was sort of a benchmark thing for me. I have the new TIM/JG and try to do things correctly when repairs are needed.
I have the utmost respect for those owners who work hard to present the best product they can on the judging field. I just don’t have that stamina, I guess.
So, I wonder are 68 owners like me or are there just fewer 68’s in NCRS population?

Re: No love for the 68?
The 63s have a lot of running changes, and they're a "respected" first year design.
The 68s have a lot of running changes, and get little respect.
And, there are a fair amount more 69s than 68s.
Given this, if you're going to restore one would you choose a 68 or a 69?
I hope that more 68s start showing up next year, but since I was disappointed with the number of 67s at the National I'm not holding my breath.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: No love for the 68?
Maybe it's just me, but I just don't seem to see a lot of C3s period. When you think about how many were made...it seems there should be more on the road. I guess since I have a '72, I kind of take notice when I see a C3. Just an observation- Top

Re: No love for the 68?
Yes the 68 is seldom seen at events. But it is closer to a c2 design with a c3 body. It is in my mind the best c3...............
When I was showing my 68 it was ALWAYS the only one. Now I drive it hence the incorrect tires. But the car is a Duntov, Bloomington Gold, plus others. Still gets a lot of attention at the cruise ins or at the gas station when I fuel up.
Being this is an early car, Nov67, it has all the early odd stuff. It’s been in my possession since ‘71 when it had only 38,00 miles. I was fortunate the original owner kept all the original belts, hoses, clamps, smog stuff, etc in boxes. So the search for replacement worn parts was minimal.
Interior pieces are the most difficult if one is unfortunate not to have good originals. The color for dark blue interior pieces in reproduction is not even close. I didn’t have to go that route I’m Glad to say.- Top

Re: No love for the 68?
Being a 68 Vette owner I claim it is on of the hardest to restore due to so many changes during production. According to NCRS there is only 244 Total 68(Lowest number of C3 Chrome Bumper Cars by far) Top Flight Vetts; maybe 1/2 that also got B/G. At B/G when the 68 and 69's are in the same section to be judged with
10 being the total number you are lucky to have 1 or 2 68's at most. Larry

Re: No love for the 68?
If they have not been preserved, 1968s are very difficult to restore. Since there were many running changes during the model run, it is extremely difficult to find correct parts. It is not feasible to make reproduction parts that fit only a few hundred cars.
For those that had to have repairs through the years, quite often 1969 parts were adapted. Many years ago, we had one in the shop that had no sun visors, which are unique to the year. We used 1969 visors and had to change the mounting.- Top

Don't know why it will not let me edit my thread but one thing I was going to add was to compare my
side mirror to Gene's side mirror (above) to show one of many changes that happened on the run. LarryLarry

Gene and Larry. Beautiful cars. Mine is a late build and has the added door pulls as well as the raised seat latches. Mine is July 18 build. I can’t post pictures from my iPad, or I would.

Re: No love for the 68?
Did not know the 1968 sun visors are unique to the year. Do not enter our original owner 1968 in any NCRS judging events. We did drive it to the Corvette Museum original opening. Our 1968 was selected to represent the 1968 model year in the line of Corvettes going from Opry Land to the museum and was parked in front of the museum for the day. Still driving it.- Top

Hay Reba: Who is that guy in the picture?? Still remember from 2006 that this young fellow in the picture came
along and started to talk to me. I knew who he was and I ask him this> What do you think of the 1968 Corvette??
His reply was> "Which One"> How appropriate that was for this thread 11 years later! Larry
Thanks-Dick

Re: No love for the 68?
...after some life setbacks with passing of father a few years back, I am back on my 68 with renewed intent. not sure I will be ready for the 50th anniversary of the 68 next year.
I personally like the uniqueness a first year car offers. It is perhaps an even more telling story of the Corvette uniqueness. One gets to see the reaction to changes the production and engineering team faced in a time-laps record of running changes. 1st year vettes are some of the most unique and rear if you think about it. Post 1st year run, may kinks were ironed out and standardized. Some 1st year owners have a car that is rare to but a handful. Also love my 05 and cant wait to buy someones 63 one day
Ignore the different tires, wrong AIR pump and a few other noticeable items

Re: No love for the 68?
In doing the newly-released JG, we were finding running changes right up to the printing deadline.
I hope that more built-in-67 1968s start to provide data, as there is a lot about those cars that is still a mystery.
