Brought the '67 home this afternoon from getting an alignment. When I got out of the car and shut the door, I heard a sound like a coin dropping out of my pocket. I couldn't see anything on the floor, so I opened the car door again and this fell out on the ground. Any idea where this came from? Did it fall out of the technicians pocket? Note, the flat on the side of the washer...standard thickness.
Where's this from???

Re: Where's this from???
Leif, it looks like a radiator support washer (there are 2 - this one is the larger of the 2). how it got in your door is another question I cant answer.Dan Young

Re: Where's this from???
Just looked. If that's what it is, it's not from my car...both of mine are in place and appear to be a bit thicker, as well. Thanks for the input.Leif

Re: Where's this from???
No red paint (??) on the washer Keith...may be a bit rusty. I see what you're talking about...guess it could be small dabs of red paint. There is no red paint on my car, though. Thanks for your input. As many of these as you've taken apart (and, put back together), thought you'd guess it for sureLeif

Re: Where's this from???
Having had my door panels off more than once, that what I was thinking, the washer behind the window regulator. If it fell from the door it would have had to have slipped down between the fiberglass inner door panel and the plastic decorative door panel - unless you have a huge hole in the bottom of the door.

Re: Where's this from???
Keith and Ed,
Everything in the door sounds and feels solid...no rattling. Everything functions as it's supposed to. This car has power windows, so no window crank for the window. Below are four pictures of the bottom of the door. If it fell out of the door, it must have come from one of the three narrow slit vents in the bottom of the door, that can be seen (barely) in picture #2 on the extreme left side, left of the rubber seal.Leif

Re: Where's this from???
Leif, the washer I and Keith are referring to goes behind the door panel on the vent window crank shaft - it is not for the main door glass mechanism. If your car was restored (and judging from the appearance of the door sides it looks like it may have who ever reassembled the door & window systems may have not done it correctly - or had an extra one in there. I wouldn't worry about it. The washer is not critical to the functioning of the vent window - it serves as a bearing surface between two materials but there is not a lot of pressure in that area so it is no big deal.Ed- Top

Re: Where's this from???
I also have washers in my 67 with power windows that look like that. If I remember right the hole in the inner door is large and the washer was there behind a 1/4 20 adjustment screw. The screw position could move for adjustment and the large washer covered the hole. May be wrong but I think that's what I remember when I assembled my doors. Kind of like a bubu adjustment. I had a car (or maybe still have it) that the door panel rubbed when opening and the panel would open. Sure that's not the case with your car but my car would spit out things that fell in the door when the window was down.

It can be a a big deal as the only way a washer can come off is if the screw backed out and is now missing.- Top

Re: Where's this from???
I would agree with you if it was correctly installed. But.. if the window and door system was installed without the washer in its proper place the window mechanism will still function, with little risk of doing other damage. If that was the case there is no telling where the installer put the washer, it may have been just laying somewhere inside the door. Would I remove the door panel and inspect the mechanism, yes. Is it critical, no.Ed- Top

Re: Where's this from???
Thank you all for your insight and comments. I may remove the door panel this winter and check the areas you all have indicated to see if anything is missing. I'm hoping it may have been dropped inside the door during the restoration and they just grabbed another washer to finish the job instead of trying to retrieve this one. Again, everything is solid, nothing loose, vent window works just fine. Thanks, again, gentlemen.Leif
