    1955 voltage regulator

I have found several service parts that will work and are the correct look but have not found a correct 826 VR. I have not seen any correctly stamped, is there anyone that restamps these? thanks RDR

Ron, Explain what you mean by correctly stamped. The example in the judging guide is the exception for a 55 rather than the norm. Most 55s VRs will be differently stamped than the examples in judging guides.

First thing the cover on a 168 is different than the one used on a 55 and is easily spotted. Stamped numbers are in a different place on the 168 regulator and that date code is probably 10 years off. (1965). Items like distributors and voltage regulators could have very early dates on 55 corvettes. Similiar regulators are the 55 chevy #945 and the regulator that use to be recognized by the NCRS which is 825. I have been contacted by close to a dozen people looking to replace the 825 with a 826. For judging I believe any date within 6 months, so 826A,B,C,D,E,F or G would appear acceptable for judging.

Ron, IF you go with a #945 it will work okay on a Corvette, but because of lower amp output it never seems to get back to the center on the amp gauge when driving.(The 945 is always deeper in the charging range than a 826 would be.) The 825 operates just as the 826 would.
