    C1 steering column removal??

Can the ci steering column be removed thru the engine compartment? Is there something on YouTube showing the removal of the column? Thanks Kevin 775

Kevin, Yes it can be removed with the engine in, I have done it. I think if you look in the ST-12 service manual it gives you a step by step procedure. Good luck, Don H.

Kevin, Yes it comes out from the engine bay. It makes it easier if you take the Pitman Arm off to clear the exhaust manifold. You'll need a Pitman Arm puller.

I haven't seen any videos but something may be out there.

On my 60, there was no room to use a pitman arm puller so I had to remove the exhaust manifold.

Jim, I think after I removed the bolts to hold the box and move it down to a better position I was able to use a puller. But I think I had the cluster out so it could swing down.

Kevin, may be best to pull the manifold in your case as Jim suggested.

              Kevin,
You don’t specify the year. A 53-57 column is more difficult to remove than a 58-62 because of its additional length and because of the way it interfaces with the instrument area. Either can come out with engine in and body on. The only way to remove a C1 column is through the engine compartment.

Mike you're right he didn't state the year in this thread but in another one earlier he asked about box repair and he stated '58.
