bringing this back to the top, but I think your asking about the clamps vs the crimp around the hose fitting. I forgot what year they did that, if that helps? but I had a call from a shop that installed one of my jobs on a car and said that his customer had the vette at an event and the compressor blew all it's oil all over the engine.
I felt bad and asked for more info so I could make things right. Never got a answer! He said he would send pictures.
Long story short, my best guess was that the hose blew off the back of the compressor. Most likely the clamp was not re-tightened that went to the manifold or muffler. The hose pressure is way up there on the high side. Lots of clamps were installed wrong or regular clamps were used instead of the ones with the safety on them. The crimp took care of those problems.
By the way, I did one for you as I remember we flew similar jobs and your a Texan. Did it work out for you?

Attached is a picture of a very late 68, end of July. It uses a square block. I'll have to start paying more attention to 68 blocks at the back of the compressors. It would not surprise me to see the left over 67 parts on early 68's, but we need to work on seeing when those parts ran out and was replaced with "Late 68" parts. Another items for me look at !!

The 1970 AIM drawing shows a round muffler, much like the 68 and 69 AIM does. I do not own a 71 AIM. Yup, I know, I should have one, but I don't :-) The 1972 AIM shows a square block.

Attached is the manifold block off very early 68, s/n 3600 range.

Joe, yours looks like the one in my second picture and the 68 AIM. Its different from the one in the first picture and the 67 AIM. See where the hoses depart the manifold and the refill ports are, very different in design. Then 67 and 68 obviously used clamps where the 69 hoses were crimped. Looks like all 3 years were very different and the drawing very deliberate. My question is still, where the heck and what the heck was that thing in the 68 AIM??? I kind of think there is more to this than it being just a drawing issue.
