L229 Engine code for 283

I am looking for a period correct motor for my resurrection of a 1960 vette. I see one on ebay that has a code of L229 - i thought this would be December 22 1959 but the add says it is from a 1961 OEM he also had the code FO203D. If anyone can help let me know or if you know of an engine. My vette has a number of 4225 which i believe was the last week of Feb 1960.

You are correct, block was cast December 22, 1959. Engine was assembled on February third and was going into a 2-barrel passenger car with Powerglide transmission.

Is you car a manual trans or an automatic. Manual trans Corvette engine codes for 1960 start with the letter C, powerglide cars start with the letter D.

I essentially bought the frame and body with no engine or transmission but I did buy and 4 speed transmission after i bought the car.
