    '65 FI spark plug changing

Just curious, is it easier to change spark plugs from below, on a lift, or from above. I'm getting ready with the band aids!

    Thanks,

    Wrede

A/C or not?? Small block without A/C is simple enough from above. A/C compressor gets in the way whether a SB or BB. Easier to get to #2 & #4 thru the right front wheel well (tire removed) or from below with A/C.

It's FI, so it's small block, no AC. From above the heater hoses and alternator make the right front pair a bit of a pain, and the right rear plugs are close to the battery. On the left side, the front pair are somewhat blocked by the air cleaner, though that can be removed with a few bolts. The left rear pair are accessible from above.

When I replaced the spark plug wires on my L79 and C60 equipped "65, I had the advantage of using my 4-post lift. I worked backwards from the bottom and backwards from the spark plug to the distributor. I found that using some WD40 on the distributor end wiring boots and feeding the distributor end wiring boots through the motor mounts is the way to go rather than trying to force the spark plug boots through between the motor mount and the block. It's still a tight squeeze but they will go through.

          Just my 2 cents worth.

This will make the job easier. It's a 3/8 drive 1.5" extension.

Thank you all for your advice. Now have the passenger side done, and as soon as I have another few hours will tackle the driver's side. I'm also checking valve lash, and removing the left valve cover requires some FI air inlet disassembly, and that also opens up the left. In the right rear, I finally gave in and loosened up the overflow tank, which allowed me to get the battery hold-down out, and then I pushed the battery back. Had lots of room then. Ignition shields are fun!

              Thanks,

              Harold W.
