1. Were the radiator support painted before they were put into the car or just bare metal?

2. If they were painted when they were put into the car is it possible to have two different shades of black paint when doing the blackout process? Radiator support showing two different shades of black?

Depends if AO Smith or St Louis car. AO Smith cars had zinc chromate painted core supports that were then blacked out so green chromate can still show in areas.

St Louis build bodies had core supports coated black prior to assembly to the body. But understand the under hood area was then blacked out with the core support installed too. So dual shades of black could be present on the core support.

Different story for AO Smith, only got the one black out coverage while assembled to the body.
