Good Morning Guys,
Here's my question. Were there any '66 427 w/AC cars built with a radiator support that has the cross brace? I just scoured the TDB Archives and didn't see much on the subject.
I've known for years that aftermarket suppliers show non-AC core supports with the cross brace and AC supports without. I've recently met a fellow NCRS member that also has a '66 AC L-36 and his has the open support without the brace bars. He says the condenser is so close to the support that there would be a clearance problem?
My car was molested by Bubbuh in the mid-'70s after he got his rat claws on the car following a mild front end accident. It's been a very long investigation authenticating what parts were/are original to the car. I'm very satisfied that I've found everything that was tampered with.
For the longest time I assumed that the radiator support wasn't original due to the cross brace. But it sure looked old enough and it has the two holes above the oval slot on the right side for the condenser/dryer tubes. And it has the small drilled hole there for the right horn ground wire.
One day I was inspecting the support up close on my workbench and I saw a glint of Nassau Blue paint on the inside of the support. With a flashlight, the more I looked the more I saw. Too much of a coincidence for Bubbuh to change the support to a non-AC support from another Nassau Blue big block. OK, there's the slim possibility that he welded the brace onto my original?
I would really appreciate any '66 L-36 w/AC owners to chime in with a description of their original supports. Do you have the open style AC support or are there any cross-brace versions with AC out there? My car was built Dec 1st-2nd 1965.
Attached are 2 file photos. Not my car. One with the brace, one without. Thanks Everyone. Mike
