C1 (59) Door Alignment Help Needed

Today, my plan was to install my doors. The drivers side went on without any issues and lined up perfectly. The passenger side...not so much. I had some challenges... When I removed both doors, each fit just fine with no issues. Today, no matter how I attempted to align the passenger door, it continued to touch at the top near the windshield area. We even took the door off and swapped the top and bottom hinges...but hence the same issue. It's like the door is cocked where the top sits more inward than the bottom. I know I can fix it by sanding down the body side where it's touching, but I thought I'd try asking the experts first. Any ideas on what I can do? Should I try adding a shim at the top hinge?

See the attached pictures for reference.

    Thanks.

Jill, Yes by adding shims between hinge bar and door. That would move door away from body. It's a bit tricky to get shims in there. With door off, you could tape them to the hinge bar so they don't fall off. You may be able to use thick flat washers taped on.

Jill, Close both doors measure each gap. Then add shims so each side is about the distance from the body.

Thanks Rich. We were able to tape washers to the hinge bar and it fits like a champ. Hope you're doing well.

Thanks Bob. We used calipers and measured the distance and added washers for shims and it worked great. With a little more fine tuning, we'll have the correct gap on each side of the door set perfectly.
