Shipping method/cost for C-1 posi-trac differential. Any ideas/suggetions?

Never shipped any parts this heavy, so looking for someone(s) with experience/knowledge. Posi-unit is separated from the carrier and can ship separately or together, minus the ring and pinion gears.

Any ideas, suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Shipping distance is from central Tx to southern Calif.

Ship USPS Priority Mail flat rage large box. USPS Priority Large box can contain a max of 70 lbs.

Boxes are free at Post Office.

Thanks, Gary, but the Large Flat Rate box at the USPS seems hardly big enough to hold the differential carrier. Possibly, my post was not clear. By carrier, I mean the external differential housing that some refer to as the pumpkin. If I dismantled the posi-trac unit, I could possibly put inside the Large Flat Rate box but not the diff. carrier.

Other ideas, suggestions?

I ship differentials and posi all over the world. Build a simple plywood box and use FedEx or UPS. Those flat rate boxes are thin cardboard and will not hold up.

About 5 years ago I shipped several with the pig/pumpkin/exterior, whatever you want to call it housing in one box and the posi unit in a 2nd large USPS flat rate box. Should work unless USPS has reduced the size or the large flat rate box.

I use ABF freight co. They are located all over the country.

I would make a crate out of 2X6 lumber. Using 3" deck screws. And on the bottom put 2 pieces of 4X4 so the trucking Co. can take it out of a pickup truck when you take it to their depot.

A few months ago, I purchased a complete 3:55 Positraction unit from Chicago Corvette. It weighed about 67 lbs. They sent the unit UPS and it was close to $52. It arrived here in the DMV about 4 days later. The box they sent it in was super heavy duty and I reused it to send them my core back to them.

Fastenal has a good shipping program. Very inexpensive too.

You may also want to try a bus service, such as Greyhound. They offer Shipping in their cargo area for minimal cost. You would need to contact them regarding the specifics.

Be aware that companies that ship all the time get HUGE discounts from UPS. Chicago Corvette's cost of $52 is going to be over $150 for the average Joe. Given the weight and size I'm guessing about $200.
