Need some help here. Old issue

Looking for a good recommendation for a carburetor (Rochester-72) rebuild. Has anybody out there used "graygracy" from ebay? Thanks

Lars Grimsrud did a good job on the original Quadrajet from my 1973 about a year and a half ago. Lars does rebuilds on a limited basis, but is one of the few who runs his rebuilt carbs on a test engine. Mine was a functional rebuild; I am not sure whether Lars does refinishing. Certainly he knows Quadrajets well, and can be contacted at v8fastcars@msn.com.

Graygracy is one of several aliases for Chicago Corvette. Search this forum for several horrific tales about this vendor... looks like bad news.

Cliff Ruggles of www.cliffshighperformance.com is probably the best Q-Jet guy in the country. He offers rebuilds, repairs, tuning, full restorations, and parts. Check out his book and forum dedicated to this carb.

Three years ago, he restored a Q-Jet I bought from eBay for my '70. It runs like it's fuel injected... smooth with instant throttle response.

Lars would be the guy I would use as well.

Mark, thanks for the reply. I've heard about Cliffs a while ago, so I'll recheck the web site.

Loved the job he did.

As I've said many times before, Rochester Q-Jets are absolutely the best street carburetor ever invented. I wish they were still being manufactured. I expect there may come a day when no carburetors are manufactured.

Cliff's posts in his forum are interesting. He reminds me of Duke... an experienced tuner who knows what works.

He shares stories about bringing his Pontiac to the strip with a Q-jet, cast iron manifolds, street tires, stock air cleaner and mufflers, and blowing past the loud and not so fast modified cars with the oversized carbs, high-rise manifolds, and no mufflers.

Similar experience with my LS5. All stock other than the timing curve and it will break traction in the first three gears with a 3.36 axle.
