    Battery for a 95 ZR1

What is the proper battery for a 95 ZR1? Cost?

    Willie-----

If by "proper" you mean a battery that's the exact same configuration as the original and which will garner full judging points, no such battery is available today. In fact, such a battery has not been available in many years. Don't bother to look for NOS, either. These batteries are sealed, wet-charged type and SERVICE batteries were never configured exactly like assembly line batteries, anyway. Any "NOS" battery of this type died a long time ago, in service or not.

The best you can do today is an AC Delco 75VPG. That's what I recommend. In fact, I might be going out today and buying a new one for my 1992 LT1. About 125 bucks at my local Delco dealer.

Willie, if your not stuck on ACDelco products, I recommend you go to Home Depot and purchase a Exide Extreme 75 Auto Battery, last year me
and a friend(he owns a 94' and I own a 92' ZR-1) ordered batteries for our ZR-1s at the local HD (we wanted fresh ones) they have the same specs
as the original factory battery, they cost $90.00 each plus at the time Exide had a rebate program for 20.00 each so net was $70.00 plus tax. Also
the Exide has a longer free replacement warranty. Home Depot SKU is 1000-035-011

        Hi John,
Thanks for the info. I don't have the Judging Manual so can you not get full points for battery even if it is an AC Delco?

        Thanks,
        Willie

You won't get full points even though it's an AC Delco battery. However, you will get some points for the fact it's an AC Delco battery. With any other battery brand you will get zero points.

for properly configured OEM AC Delco battery you lose 10 points for ORIGINALITY - remember to cut off the carry handle as the original battery never was delivered in the car with the handle - if you don't cut it off that is another 2 point deduction

Most Delco batteries are no longer supplied with handling straps. Unfortunately, these can be a huge advantage when installing a battery in a C3 but not a big advantage for a C4.

Joe, we are in the process of attempting to produce a reproduction battery for C4. I've attached a copy of a label and a battery that was prepped (by Paul Schwack) for a 96. Hard to find a flat battery with the vents in the front. We will be testing the battery in the Winter Regional to see how it scores. We think we can get it to score maybe a 25 -30 percent deduct, instead the typical 50% deduct.

The label might help but there's no current battery of similar configuration. The Delco Eye is also, of course, lacking (although there is one brand of battery on the market that actually does have the "eye" but I've forgotten the brand name).

By the way, the difference between the 75A battery (which was by far the most common) and the 75B (which, as far as I know, was Corvette-only) is the side of the battery which the Delco-eye was on.

battery is a STANDARD DEDUCTION of 10 points - so we will see how Jim Loughlin and I judge the battery ya'll present, as we typically see all the C4s mechanically

Here's a picture of the (dead) battery from a 700mi '96 grand sport I owned. There are a quite a few differences seen when you compare the 2 pictures, but one looks as good as the other.
