Guys,

I just heard from the shop where my car is getting painted and the windshield cracked while they were removing it.  It needed to be removed to repair rust damage. Is it even possible to find a date coded one or should I not waste my time and just order a new one. What’s the best source for a new one?

I agree with Leif's suggestion.

By the way, I would not be too hard on the shop fro breaking the windshield upon removal. This is quite common. In the VAST majority of cases, when a windshield is removed, it's done for replacement purposes. Obviously, in those cases damage to the removed windshield is a "moot point". So, I expect that the design parameters for automotive windshield installations does not take into much consideration preservation of the integrity of a removed windshield.

Let me add that fitment when it is installed in the frame is very important. If sealant it too low or high the windshield molding will not set flat against the glass. Don't accept a poorly installed windshield.
