    Re: GM Part number to GE Bulb Number

    Harry, I noticed no one responded to your Jan. 15 thread re: "easy way to convert GM part #s to GE#". Chevrolet published what they referred to as a Special Interest Catalog. The one I have dated 10/1/61 answers/converts all bulb part #s to manufacture #s (pg 210 & 211). I do not know if this was done thru '63 but it appears the bulbs are the same based on your sheet. If you cannot find this catalog advise.

      Re: GM Part number to GE Bulb Number

      I don't know if this would apply to the 1963 model year but the 1967 Corvette Owners Manual has a "Lamp Bulb Data" chart showing the bulb application, candle power and generic bulb number. Typical bulbs for the dash are 1445, 1816, 90, 257, and 1893. You can buy a complete set from Corvette Central but they are import bulbs with silver bases and may not have the proper candlepower. I just went thru this and after buying the kit I decided to buy NOS bulbs for everything. I found original Delco bulbs and some GE bulbs on ebay. Fairly inexpensive. All have the brass bases. The only pricey one is the #257 "blinking bulb" for the headlight motor warning.

        Rocco, thank you. Depending on your age you might recall train sets when you were a kid. The locomotive usually had a blink bulb. That bulb was the GE257. Search on Locomotive bulbs and might find them for 50 cents as I did a few years back.

          David, I don't have that catalog, is it easy to scan in the page and post it.

          Thanks

            Not easy to scan but here are the numbers except for 274004. 142453 = 90, 131282 = 53, 142453 = 90, 456985 = 1891, 454626 = 1816
            9412348 = 257, 142453 = 90

              Harry I looked at my brothers 66 owners manual and it has the same information as Rocco's 67. I don't have a manual for my 63 so I can't say if is listed in there.

                        Rocco The bulb kit you have from Corvette Central was it Lectric Limited kit or one that Corvette Central made?

                          Bob and Others, I made an error this morning. The dash bulb kit I purchased was from Long Island Corvette Not Corvette Central as I originally reported. Sorry for the confusion. I believe the kit was made up at LIC as it did not have any other markings. It bulbs came in a fitted/divided plastic box with a list of contents, quantity and the application.

                            Rocco The bulb kit I have came from Paragon and is a Lectric Limited kit. The base of the bulbs are not silver but a brass color. So maybe they are two different kits.

                              I bought a Paragon bulb kit, and all the bulbs were generic silver base bulbs without a brand name but were marked China. I was very disappointed and there is no way I will use the bulbs in the instrument cluster, radio, clock and other inaccessible places. I bought a bunch of Sylvania long-life 1816 bulbs for $5 a pair, and to my chagrin they were also marked China. However, they had brass bases and were a name brand so I will used them. Ironically, very few of the 50 year old GE bulbs had actually failed, but it seemed foolish not to replace them with the dash apart which I never want to do again.
