1963 Windshield Tint or Tint type.

I am replacing my windshield with a new dated window.
    Options I was given are;

    1) No tint
    2) Top tint
    3) All tinted the same
    4) Tinted window with darker top tint.

My Corvette din't come with the factory tinted glass.
Shouldn't the window be clear without any top tinting?
    Thanks
    Rick

Rich, clear is the way to go to get the points in judging. I got mine from Pilkington vintage div.

Richard, The tinted windshields won't fly thru judging. Not even close unless they have improved them in the last 15 years. John

Thanks Ed & John for your input.
I have plans on having my car judged and didn't want to make a mistake on this very visible item.

Pilkington hasn't changed them, yet. I've been working with their Classics division for well over a year and hopefully the new/correct tinted glass will be available in the near future.

How close to the near future is the timeline Jim?

You don't mention your vin number, but keep in mind that tinted glass was not available as an option prior to vin 4000 in 1963.
Currently the Plinkington tinted windshields are a Std Deduction of 50% because of an incorrectly configured shade strip across the top.

if the 63 windshield is original and not tinted, then go with non tinted like the non tined glass in the doors. if the doors are clear and the windshield is tinted , the judges will frown.mike

Gary, Pilkington has all the correct info. on how the windshield should be configured. It's a matter of having their engineers make the changes. They keep telling me that it shouldn't be a big deal to make the changes but their actions, or lack of them, seem to indicate differently. There are several, including myself, that are waiting for a correct windshield to be available.

Jim, thanks for the reply. If Pilkington engineers would get off their rears and do this I bet they could sell a bunch. Let me know of any updates.
