    Re: C2 carpet

Dave, you and Gary have some nice clear photos. No question of the original carpet cuts. These would be difficult to reproduce with current day available carpet. The original carpet is lower shallow nap compared to reproduction carpet which has a taller loop and stands taller say about 20%. Keeping the loop tight as the originals without “loose fuzzies” would be difficult to get it to lay nice with a cut seam layed over each other.

      Re: C2 carpet

Thank you for the information. My original carpet does not have any cuts behind the accelerator. I guess I will have to make the referenced cuts to the replacement carpet. How do you get the left hand flap to lay flat?

      Thank you,

      Randy

        Randy,
IMHO don’t reproduce something your car does not exhibit. One should reflect what their car tells them not what you want to replicate that is not true to said car. From the limited data here alone it does not dictate a cut on all cars. As illustrated here not a feature (cut carpet) is true of all cars. I’ve not run into it on original cars I’ve worked on as well as others. Pictures in this post show evidence of some being cut. So be cautious of what you replicate without original evidence on said car to validate it.

Randy, I would not make the slit unless your carpet can't be fitted flush...and even then I would not do it unless it is so obvious and you were sure you could make it better with the slit. Read post #13 and #15....the 67 JM does not mandate the slit.

              Randy,
Since you say your car didn’t have a cut I’d follow Gary’s advice and not cut it. Try a bit of heat and slight reposition of carpet to fit better. Once cut it is permanent unless you replace it. Some pulling towards the left side kick panel as heated works wonders for fit. Use caution and fit dimmer switch grommet last. Carpet has nylon and melts if too hot so work it slowly.
