Can I get your e-mail address and I’ll send a couple of pictures of the stamp pad.
I just joined and not sure how the reply and e-mail works to communicate.
        Robert,

Welcome! I believe what Jimmy wanted was for you to post a high resolution photo to this thread. You will most likely get plenty of responses. Curious, when/where was referenced NCRS judging?

The block numbers are okay and received both the 350 and 175 points on the NCRS judging sheets.
The stamp pad is a little marked up (engine was rebuilt) but the numbers are clear enough and do match.
The judging sheets deducted 25 points in all three categories relating to the stamp pad (all or none is the rule) .
The judging notes said NTP or not typical production and the broach marks were the wrong direction.
Is this considered a matching numbers car still?
Would it be correct to say it looks like the original engine?
          Many thanks

Without visual review of the pad it sounds like the scoring sheet all ready answered your question with “NTP” and “broach marks were wrong direction”.

Did you obtain the car with the understanding it was the original engine?

NCRS does not use the term 'matching numbers' as it carries no defined meaning. Not sure what value saying looks like the original engine would have as it doesn't.

The three features of the stamp pad are judged and scored individually, not all or none.

Having the correct casting number and an acceptable date does not confirm that the engine is the original any more than the thousand other engines made the same day.

Sorry to be harsh but this car sounds like a faint hope case that would need too much apologizing for.

                Robert,
You need to get somebody to look at entire car for you before spending any money, buyer beware. Check your local chapter members.

Now that you've posted pictures, If the pad was covered in paint during judging it would lose all it's points anyway.

For what it's worth, the Green Coupe with saddle interior has been thru several dealers, RB Motors, Merhons and couple more between 1993 and 2014. Has been advertised with 3.70 rear and again several years later with 3.55. l would suggest careful inspection by someone with knowledge of unique features of the L78.

And for what it is worth, here is a picture of that engine stamp I have in my files dated 2008. Unfortunately, it is not labeled where I got it from, but most likely off the internet and not from my camera.
