    Aair Filter ?

Does anyone have a part number (AC,or any other brand) for a 1965 Corvette 350 hp high performance air cleaner filter?
    Thanks.

The original filter was GM #6418399. The last available filter was GM #6484339 but it's discontinued. My vague recollection is that the original filter was a foam-type filter; the latter was a cellulose-type filter.

The WIX equivalent of the cellulose media filter is their #42070.

Reproductions of the original filter may be available. I'd only use one for judging, though.

What Joe said, and I'll add that all '63-'65 Corvette carbureted 327 OE filter elements were the foam backed up by a wire screen. After I washed mine a couple of times the butt joint broke circa 1968, and the service replacement was a paper element, AC part number something like A163C or maybe 161. The carburetor and FI filters were very close in part number.

That filter element is somewhat short compared to the 3" tall cellulose element that went into production for '66 so less total filtration area is available and might be the reason it was foam instead of cellulose. The only problem is that the foam element has poor filtration performance compared to cellulose then and now, so only use the repro foam element for judging. Use a paper element for normal driving unless you want a continuous "dirt hone" for the engine.

The Wix is also available under the NAPA Gold product line, 2070, same filter. A few years ago I checked the Baldwin online catalog cross reference, and they don't offer a replacement.

The only other application I found for this filter is Cadillac. I don't remember the exact years, but it was in the sixties.
