    Coker wide oval radial

Thinking of buying a set of the new wide oval radials for my 1970. Anybody tried them and if so how long. Expensive but if they truly handle well then there worth it. Thanks.

Don, my 72 had a set of firestone wide ovals and did not like them, I did buy a set of Kelsey tires Goodyear and I believe they are a much better tire, Ride is better. from a judging stand point they also judge better.

      Hi Edward,

Do you keep the Goodyear tires on and use them to drive around? How are they noise wise? If you had radials on your 72 how would you compare the noise to the radials? Do the goodyears hold a line better than the Firestone tires?

I am planning to finally get my 70 judged and am really struggling with what to do regarding the tires.

      Kind Regards,

      Bill

Bill the radials are a better ride and much better control , the problem with my car is I don't drive enough, and the Good Years will flat spot as with most belted tires ,but after driving for a few miles they work out. I do drive my 72 with the Good Years, no road noise..

            Re: Coker wide oval radial

I am torn between the Goodyears tires and new Coker Radial Wide Ovals. I know the Goodyear tires will judge better. I am hoping to hear some real world reviews of the Firestone Wide Ovals from Corvette owners. I Have B.F.Goodrich Radial TAs installed now for driving and they just seem noisy. For a few points I may opt for the Firestone Wide Oval Radials if I hear some favorable reviews regarding ride and noise. I also prefer to just have one set of tires and not two sets of wheels and tires.

            Decisions, decisions.

              Bill,

I have been looking for some feedback on them as well. Someone on another forum has bought some and seems very happy with their performance, but so far his experience has been very limited so it's too early to tell. If I hear anything further I'll let you know.

                Thank you Dan.

I will do the same if I hear any feedback.

Interesting thread, Donald. Thanks for posting.

FWIW, I have two sets of tires and rims. One for driving (the obligatory Radial T/A) and one for judging and the occasional show (Kelsey Speedway bias ply). Frankly, I use the bias plys as little as possible. Why? Have you ever driven on Michigan Roads? Google for a laugh/cry. I'm contemplating the Coker Radial that you're considering and the Diamondback white stripe. The stripe is really growing on me, most likely because it's not seen as much, and my real spare is the white stripe. Diamondback will lay down the stripe width and location as per your order. They also have what I think is a more period correct tread pattern (I call it pedestrian).

I'm watching patiently to see feedback on the Coker radial. After I buy and get over the expense of a new set of tires for my 2010 Grand Sport, replacing the still-good 7,000 mile tread use but lousy Goodyear performance with the new Michelin PS4, I'll concentrate on my C3.

                  Thanks again.

cokers in past have been rated poorly on driving and quality by some, check some other boards for more info

The new radials? I have read poor reviews on the bias ply Coker Wide Ovals.

Still looking for any reviews on the bias ply look but radial construction wide ovals. Hate to spend 1200 on a set and have them be a piece of crap. Have looked at all the mostly negative reviews on other sites about poor quality of there other products and customer service. May roll the dice and take one for the team if nobody speaks up.

Don, the problems with Coker tires is the low production numbers make them less than perfect when balancing these tires they take to much weight., and you will find that you will be better buying tires like BFG, Uniroyal tire paws, They make a white wall that is close to 1 inch. looks great and has a smooth ride for everyday driving, the only thing I used my Coker tires is for judging reasons only.

I had coker red line radial on my 67. Terrible tires. I wouldn't put them on an enemy's car.
