    Mike, you are right on. Please read the post above. A new member is trying to figure out how to dull the louvers on his 67 and wants help. Instead of encouraging good restorations, we are drilling down into size of striping, dullness of paint, etc. No wonder members don't come back. Soon there wont be any cars left to judge so the problem will solve itself. Too bad this is where we are today with this issue. Leadership needs to wake up and create guidelines which are realistic given the materials available today.

        I think “40% Stinger” clarification was to address a lack of Judging Resource Manual (JRM) narrative. 1967 Judging Guide Exterior Color narrative about “Stingers” directed you to JRM Standard Deduction Guidelines on Color. However, once you got to JRM section, it was silent on scoring deduction.

        If we are going to have Stinger application criteria, then that criteria should be definitively spelled out within our 1967 Judging Guide. Stingers are often subjects in Advanced Judging schools, but not everyone attends/has access to those schools.

        Topic segway: I find our new paint flow chart easier to use than prior editions. Don’t see how this new paint scoring format is driving owners away. My impression was base coat/clear coat restorations now have much improved (fewer points deducted) options.

                    Stop thinking about the deduction of points. The whole idea is to build one’s car so it is as correct as possible. The main emphasis I see as members post here seems to be the score obtained. Seems to me some are totally forgetting the entire idea of the club. This is about the RESTORATION of Corvettes and attempting to make it as authentic as possible.

                    Yes the standards are high but being totally correct and just being close have measurable differences.

                    And as for persons not taking advantage of the advance judging school classes .......stop complaining and make a point to attend. There are always judges willing to explain the questions of students as well as they can. We have had paint experts in the past covering this very topic.

                        A missing hood stinger on a 1967 Corvette that was supposed to have one from the factory, has been addressed for years under the Standard Deduction Guidelines Item 10 = 100% deduct of Body Color.

                            If you can't write it out in the "Judging Guide" so an owner can understand the criteria, how are you aiding him in choosing a painter/restorer who knows what he is doing? Is there some sort of "divine guidance" available only at advanced judging schools? Like it or not the JG is also used as a "buyer's guide" - spell it out so that everyone understands it, REMOVE the Mystery.

                                    The specifications for the stinger dimensions on the hood of a 1967 Corvette have been part of the 1967 Corvette Assembly Instructions Manual since its inception back in 1966. You can find those dimensions on page G379, UPC L36, Sheet A17.

                                        Could this issue expedite the long awaited 8th edition for 1967 JM. Totally agree with Loren. Interest and enjoyment in these often pricey restorations is not served when clear and reasonable guidelines are not communicated. If advanced judging schools have the latest or missing information that's not in JG than put out a supplement if needed. It would probably fit better than another 67 JG on my shelf.

                                                I agree, i just bought the 7th edition great colour layout book why did't they put a nice clear colour guideline of the Stinger dimension's for us to use, why do i have to go to ADVANCED JUDGING SCHOOLS not everybody has the time and money different story if your going to be NCRS judge that why you have the JG guideline book to guide our Painter and restoration shops to do a proper job, a quick test in using a US Dollar bill 6"2 and dime on the nose

                                                            Mitch, so if the guidelines for the new rule is based on dimensions provided by the AIM, how much margin of error will be allowed since many of us have observed original stingers that had variances in them. I would love to be able to attend the advanced judging schools but it's difficult when you work 6 days a week and care for an elderly parent. Thanks in advance.
