Can't remember where I read it...will need to do some re-research but Quanta makes a semi-flat black engine compartment paint.

Magic paint at Tractor Supply is an enamel and a very close match to the description Ron spoke of.

I find quanta paints many times woun’t spray out of the can. So I avoid them.

IFF the 1966 spec was Duco Lacquer, why are you telling people its enamel? A search of John's detailed paper on this should clarify.

Mel, I have always used the Eastwood "under hood black" lacquer. Great coverage and just the right amount.of sheen.
Plus it is lacquer as original.

I have a couple gallons of the GM Black reconditioning paint, really great stuff fast dry and easy to blend for touch up's. Wish you could still get it.

I am seeing several negatives on the Eastwood product reformulation being like water out of the can, not resistant to the basics, etc. I have the names of the DuPont to PPG tech transfer, now the search for that begins...

If I didn't have GM Black paint I would use SEM Trim Black which you can buy in quarts and you mix it 50% Trim black to 50% lacquer thinner. But be aware since it's a lacquer product it can and will blush on wet or humid days. They also sell it in spray cans but the sheen just doesn't look right to me out of rattle cans.
