The original PRODUCTION valve was GM #5910602. However, that valve, also used for many earlier years, was discontinued from SERVICE in January, 1970 and replaced by GM #5910667. So, I expect that the 5910667 was the valve actually used for 1972 PRODUCTION.

Thanks Joe, I new you would have the answer. Can you tell me if POA 5910667 has a super seeded number? Can you relate to a 5910594 Valve
Thanks again for all your knowledge and support

GM #5910667 was superseded by GM #5910593. The latter was then superseded by GM #6551430 which was discontinued without supersession some time ago.

The GM #5910594 was applicable to most 1966-73 passenger cars, Camaros, and Vega as well as most equivalent Pontiacs and Oldsmobiles. It was superseded by GM #6551429 which was discontinued without supersession. How these valves functionally differ from the Corvette valve I do not know. However, I'm sure they differ in some way.

          Re: Need GM Part Number

          Ed,
The difference between the 5910593 and 594 is the configuration of the ports on the POA valve.
If you are ordering on line be very careful, many sellers don't properly identify their valves.
If you need a photo of a 5910602 let me know, I have a NOS one for my 67.
          Kind regards

Joe, great information which I can use in identifying a new POA if necessary.

Peter, Thanks for the offer, but I have the original valve from my 72 to compare. The problem is that the valves do not have the part numbers on the valve, so when someone has a picture of a valve you cant tell its part number.

            Appreciate all the information

              Re: Need GM Part Number

              Ed:

You tell the valves apart by their configuration. There are three (3) basic configurations regarding the ports along the sides of the valve.

              Often referred to as A - B - C configurations.

Not certain you will find a NOS POA with the part number you want.........so you may have to settle for a GM replacement with the proper configuration. Your original valve can also be rebuilt by Classic Auto Air in Florida, and after rebuilding should operate as new.

You can remove part numbers and dates from the replacement valves and have ink stamps made for whatever you want the part and date to be.

Probably Classic Auto Air and Pacecar Jeff are the two folks you would want to contact regarding sourcing of the 0667 valve, if it is out there they will know where. But a bette/more practical alternative is having yours rebuilt or finding NOS replacement and making the ink stamps.

                Ed,
The last three digits of the part number are usually ink stamped on the valve. I think 15-51 is the short number for the 5910593.

That is correct...............and it is probably the one he needs/will find NOS. But he needs to verify before purchase.

                    Re: Need GM Part Number

The fact that the last 3 digits are the makings on the valve is interesting. The last four digits on my valve is 0602, which is the number Joe reported was the valve from 1970.

It's possible the GM #5910602, 5910667, and 5910593 are the same valve. It could be that the 5910602, the valve supposedly used in PRODUCTION and initially available in SERVICE, was the same valve available under the other two part numbers but some other parts or instructions were included with the other part numbers. That would explain why the 5910602 is shown in PRODUCTION through 1972 but was discontinued from SERVICE and superseded in 1970.
