    1978 EGR Valve Broadcast Code

    1978 L82 built 2/25/78
    EGR broadcast/part no.: OM17056494
    EGR date stamp: 34173 (12/7/77 3rd shift)

    I have two questions:

    (1) Is "OM" in fact the broadcast code?
    (2) There is a white circular tag on the diaphragm housing, about 3/4" diameter. There is nothing legible on it now, but would this be a broadcast code sticker? If so, can anyone share a pic of what an original looks like?

    Thanks much,
    Charlie

I'm not sure on the broadcast code. However, the GM #17056494 is the original PRODUCTION EGR valve for 1978 Corvettes with L-82 and auto transmission. So, if that's the application you have, then you have the correct valve regardless of what the broadcast code is.

The broadcast code below is for the L82 four-speed and shows ON and precedes the GM# as shown in the photo below. The L82 M38 format is similar except the broadcast code of OM.

O.K. Thanks guys. Mine is an auto, so "OM" is correct. Although I plan to go for Bowtie, the round sticker on mine will have to be replaced for Flight judging as the print is totally faded away.

How many points? I might leave it for Bowtie, then if you desperately need the 0.2 points this represents replace the sticker when doing additional judging.

            Hey there Patrick-
I figure it won't help Bowtie since it is just a round piece of paper at this point, and it will hurt Flight, albeit every so slightly. List of changed-out items on car will be very short.

But it could also hurt Bowtie. I would agree with Patrick, the hit to Flight Judging would probably be less than what might happen by replacing the tag for Bowtie.

Determine which award is more important to you a and then give it some more thought before moving forward.
