Recently I began thinning the heard of project cars and sold two of my '69 big block coupes to a friend. On one of them, a pre strike 400 HP air coupe, when he removed the carpet, which obviously had never been out, he found a second build sheet in the very back close to the light back there? We had already removed the tank and found a fairly nice for it's age sheet there also. I have 3 remaining '69 BB coupes and have had several others over the years, but have never seen that second build sheet under the carpet in any other car. How common is it?

Re: 2nd Build Sheet in '69 Coupe?
The reason that I'm particularly interested in this is the remaining project car is unusual. I bought it in mid 80's with burgundy paint and an aftermarket hood eliminating the wiper door and grille in front of the wiper door. It was running with a small block and at a glance on a lift I didn't think it had ever been damaged. It was cheap and I intended to skin the front end off and use it on another project. I already had the doors off and happened to notice that it had a high RPM tach. Looking under the hood I found the TI box on the left front. The turbo 400 had a high shift point tag and it was serial numbered to the car. At that point I got really interested and pulled the tank. Instead of a build sheet it had a label from some dealer in Kansas glued to the side as if it had been shipped unboxed. A friend in law enforcement ran a title history and somehow we got to a used car dealer in Texas. The person on the phone said the original engine and hood from the car were outside under a tree for a long time. He said somebody had painted the heads silver and it had the "factor 2 4's" on it. By now I've figured this guy didn't know paint from alum. heads and 3 2's fro 2 4's. I've gotten the NCRS paperwork on it and it was delivered new in Orange California, but the trail goes stone cold there. It also has 3.36 HD axle that's date coded as it should be for this car. It's fathom green with tan leather and speed warning. It's been collecting dust in my warehouse for over 30 yrs and I think it's time to build it. I've run information wanted ads in Driveline several times over the years when it's crossed my mind. I took the dash partly apart years ago to replace the center instrument cluster which is cracked on both sides in the usual place. There's no build sheet there as I've been told some people found. It doesn't have any signs of having been an L88 (none of the J56 brake supports and it's not power brakes) and the antenna hole looks factory, as opposed to obviously drilled one that was on my L88 when found. It does have some odd holes in the radiator support that look factory instead of drilled that are NOT consistent with one that would have come from an A/C car and also some equally factory looking holes in the rear compartment somewhere that I've never seen on any other car. They may be in the jack compartment, can't remember. Anyway, it's an interesting car and a rouge build sheet would be a windfall.- Top
