1970 distributor cap

The 1970 distributor cap is supposed to say "Delco Remy Patent Pending R" on the top.

Is the letter "R" turned sideways?

Something to keep in mind: a part like this distributor cap was being made by the millions as the same cap was used throughout GM's car and truck lines. There were undoubtedly many, many molds in use. There may have been subtle, non-functionality-related differences between the molds, especially with respect to script.
