    65 vs 63 head lights

I was doing ops on my 65 in preparation for the regional next weekend, when, sure enough an original headlight fogged up, smoked and burned out as looked at it. I guess the physicists are correct when they say that the act of observing something happen changes the outcome...

In any case, it looks like my Duntov 63 has temporarily become one of those car you flip over in the backyard and strip, so, are 65 headlights the same as 63?

    Thanks,

I slather clear silicone sealer around the electrodes on the back of my 63 T3 headlights. Not sure if it helps but it may prevent them sucking air and burning out when ignited after a long period of disuse....

Thanks Harry, the blueprints are too small to see, even for an old body designer, like me. I gather, though, from the date info, that 63 and 65 are the same. If I've interpreted that wrong, please let me know. I found a T3 in my stash, I think its good one. Please take a look and let me know what you think:

This older chart came from Lectric Limited: T3 Bulb Identification Chart.pdf

Frank, I used the red high heat silicone in the same areas. So far no burnt bulbs.

I didn't notice the "DOT" marking on that bulb, its a repro. The one below works and (another one from my stash) doesn't have item DOT marking, so I think I'm good to go. Didn't have to violate the 63..

Frank, before I button this up, do you have a pic of your silicone job? (re-reading that, I think maybe my wording wasn't the best)

                      Mike,
All 1961-'67 headlights are the same (except for the date stamp on back). 1960 low beams internals are a holdover from 1959 (diffuser is a half circle as opposed to full circle in later years but the lens is the same as later years).

I don't have pictures unfortunately - perhaps Harry does ?!
I do remember there is not a really 'neat' way to do it though - odd angles and protrusions, best to be a little messy but get good coverage...

Yup - that's about as good a job as you can do. I believe in the practice though....my T3s are seldom used but light up every time with no burn outs...

Thanks guys, I can handle that, I don't want this one to go up in smoke after sitting on a shelf for a decade or more...
