    69 Headlight shields

I was wondering if it is common and acceptable for the headlight buckets to rub on the headlight shields when operating? I've heated and reshaped mine to where they are better but there is still obvious interference so I'm wondering if it's normal and I should leave it or if need to shoot for full clearance when the doors go up and down.

    Thanks

    Greg,
One of the Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) in the back of the 1968-69 TIM&JG is about your issue. In some cases the headlamp shield will catch on the headlamp assembly and prevent the headlamps coming up. This, as you can imagine, presents a safety hazard, and the TSB addressed this. This is a different shield that is trimmed differently to prevent this happening.

If, however, you are using reproduction shields I have no help to offer.
    Terry

Thanks Terry. I just had a look and the TSB it only talks about replacing the shield with a later p/n and it's for catching headlights. Mine doesn't catch, they just rub a bit going up and down and I was wondering if this typical in which case I'll leave them. If they shouldn't rub then I'll have to work on finding some way to get clearance.

        Greg,
The only one that I have had rub was on one where the nose had been lightly rearranged. And that rubbed only on the rearranged side. I used an original shield and a repro with no significant difference. Figured out exactly where it rubbed and then did some light shaving, heating, and massaging to get adequate clearance.
