Re: Attaching surround to inner fender
Hi John. In my opinion, 3/8 gaps as you have described are not that uncommon . I have seen larger on known unhit bodies. I am sure the goal was to have small gaps , but we have to remember this is a production based car. Lots of parts can vary making it necessary to adjust here and there. I am thankful chevrolet gave us many ways to fit the panels. Hope this helps. Enjoy.- Top

Just happen to be playing with splash shield images today, getting ready for Woodward Avenue on Sat. Here's the 1967 AIM view of the shield and seal assembly Harry is talking about. OUTER/Smaller Splash Shield Assemblies – See 1967 AIM UPC 11-13, p A2-A3.
3797275 (LH) & 3797276 (RH) each with SEAL 3797033. Bolt/screws = 3847758. Replacements for the SEALS have been discussed herein recently. Bolt/screw (orig. vs. repro.) head marks have been discussed here also.https://MichiganNCRS.org
