Water pump casting number help please

My 67 had a casting number 3839175 pump on it when I got it. I put a rebuilt 3859326 on it.

What was the 3839175 used on? I’m seen some reference to it being used on 64 SHP engines and also a reference that it was used on small block marine engines.

i need a bypass pump for my 65 El Camino that is dressed as an L79, would the 3839175 be OK?

I believe the 3839175 was used after the 1965 period. If yours has a date on it that works for the car, I'd say it's probably original to the car. Of course, if it has no date or it has a date that doesn't fit, then it's not original to the car.

The 3839175 was used during the 63-65 period for applications requiring external bypass. It was also produced into the early 70's and possibly later for SERVICE for all 1955-1970 Corvettes and 1955-68 Chevrolets. It will work just fine for your Chevelle application.
