74 Big Block Distributor Part Number

Hi All -

Thanks for help lately in answering my questions - I have one more. The 74 judging manual lists original distributor part number for 454 manual or AT as 1112114. The 68-82 Corvette restoration guide and the "Corvette by the Numbers" book guide lists another original part number 1112526 in addition to 1112114.

Are both numbers correct original part numbers?

Chev P & A catalog ( 1979 ) only lists 1112114 for '74 454. Corvette Black book lists both numbers.

Other than those references stated in your post and Ray's post, the only reference I can find for part no. 1112526 is from the Dec. '83 Corvette Parts and Illustration Catalog. It lists that part number for 71-72 350 except special high performance. Interestingly, the January '75 Corvette Parts Catalog has no reference to part no. 1112526. The only part number for '73-'74 454 manual & automatic including California NB2 cars that I can find is 1112114. The distributor on my April '74 454, M40, NB2 car is dated 3 H 20 (August 20, 1973) and has a part number 1112114.

From my research, the only part number that I believe to be correct for your car would be 1112114. Hopefully, there will be other comments/opinions.

Thanks to all - confusing to say the least. I have found at least three different reference books (Corvette black book makes #four) stating both part numbers. The most detailed distributor description is from 1955-82 "Corvette by the Numbers" reference book. It goes into much detail with notes listing the type of distributor, color of the paint dot, etc., and in this book only lists part number 1112526. I feel relatively confident based on all these sources which lists the second part number (1112526) that the number wasn't pulled from a hat. My guess is that there was a change in 454 distributor part numbers sometime during the production year - but just a guess. Additionally, my Chevrolet 53-82 corvette parts and illustration catalog does not list any part number for a 74 454 distributor (only 350 engine listed). I cannot find any information suggesting that 1112526 was a service replacement.

I have a fairly late 74 454 - June 22, 74 - the distributor is 1112114. Another data point for you - here is a GM parts catalog listing from 1980. It shows 1112114 as the distributor for 73-74 454s - it shows 1112526 as the distributor for 71-72 350s.

As a final note, these 1974 guys know their stuff even amongst the confusion of published sources. They have had their cars for a very long time and know them well.

Sources like the 1968-82 Corvette Restoration offer little original research or study but is simply a compilation of other published sources like the Black Book and even NCRS technical guides. It is not surprising then to find that it references unsubstantiated numbers. In contrast a book like Bizocco's 1969 Stingray book has as many pages as the 68-82 restoration guide yet targets a single model year.
