    Gary,
We haven't found one on a 73 or 74 yet. The most common one so far has been the FC2.

      Justin,
The red AC FC-2 oil cap came from a 70 Camaro SS 350 (300 HP, L48 engine made in Tonowanda with painted valve covers). The 70 Camaro Z28 oil caps were chrome and made by Stant with the letter "S" stamped on the rivet head and the engines were made in Flint with cast aluminum covers.

        Justin----

L-34 was a 350/360 HP 396 used in 1966-69 Chevelles. It was never a Corvette engine. All L-34 had chrome valve covers.

          Gary------

I expect that the AC Division was making these things by the millions during the period. The differences probably relate to different sets of tooling or wear on tooling. This is just the kind of difference that tooling wear causes. For example, the cap on the left was probably made from tooling early in its wear cycle. The cap on the right probably made from tooling late in its wear cycle.

The material of each looks different, chrome/stainless vs. steel?

Re: C-3 1970 Oil Filler Cap Embossed Discription

Thanks Guys...The AC-FC-77 cap I have looks exactly like the unpainted cap posted by David except the word "FILL" is directly under the top "knob" rather than the word "OIL" as shown in the pic. The font is identical.

Is it correct to assume the Tonawanda Plant produced the base 350/300 engine for all 1970 GM models and that production runs were sent to multiple assembly locations?

Gary's offer to review of his cap inventory may result in additional information...Clark

                Clark-----

No, Tonawanda did not produce small block engines for Corvettes.

OK Guys...Since the original post on July 10, has anyone had a chance to check their "oil cap archives" to help pinpoint the FC-77 application? Thanks...Clark

                    Clark,

Since I have about 60 or more vintage Chevrolet parts catalogs and Chevrolet & GM Parts History manual I did a bit of research.
                    Gr. 1.758 Oil Caps

                    3835665 (FC-2) replaced by 850843 sometime between April 1975 and September 1975.
The 850843 first used on 1976 Chevrolets w/V8 (exc. 454)
However, my 1971 Pontiac Parts Catalog (Sept. 1970) lists the 850843 cap as "FC-2".
Therefore, both the 3835665 and the 850853 caps were stamped FC-2 in and around Sept. 1970.

                    850843 (FC-2) replaced by 6410893 (FC77) sometime between Jan. 1982 and Jan. 1990.

                    6410893 (FC77) replaced by 6410961 (FC91) sometime between Jan. 1982 and Jan. 1990.

                    6410961 (FC91) replaced by 12334506 (FC-125) sometime between Jan. 1982 and Jan. 1990.

                    6410961 is listed in my 1976-1981 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Dec. 1983) for 76-81 ALL (1.4, 1.6, 140, 262, 305, 350, 400).
850843 is listed in my 1976-1981 Chevrolet Parts Catalog ( Sept. 1980) for 76-81 ALL.

Maybe this will shed a little light on the FC-77 oil cap.

                    Dave

Thanks Dave...Appreciate your research. You indicate above both the FC-2 caps were stamped in and around Sept, 1970. Do your records reflect what cap (s) were used on the 350/300 prior to that date? A takeaway is the FC-77 although identical to the FC-2 wasn't introduced until after Jan. 1982. Correct? Clark

                        The FC-2 was used for 1969 300/350.
It was also used for the 300/350 application through 1970
